FCSS Completes Social Needs Assessment for Pincher Creek and area
February 18, 2021
Pincher Creek and District FCSS is pleased to announce the release of the final report of the Social Needs Assessment for the Town and M.D. of Pincher Creek. The contract for the assessment was awarded to Nichols Applied Management Inc. through a competitive bid process in 2019.
The purpose of the of the Assessment is to support FCSS, community organizations, and governing bodies to respond to social needs within the region and build on the community’s strengths and assets. The Assessment represents a first step toward the building of a strategic social plan to guide funding, create or reinforce partnerships, and to establish social priorities within the region.
Research for the project took place through the fall and winter of 2019-2020 and included reviews of provincial, municipal, and industrial contexts, analysis of statistical data, and engagement with community members through interviews, a survey, and focus groups.
This Assessment recognizes that social need, in any context, is not the sole responsibility of any one agency, department, or government. Rather, it is a partnership that strives to recognize strengths and assets while moving toward resolution of challenges. Further, the Assessment underscores the fact that the Pincher Creek region is not alone in facing social challenges related to affordable housing, isolation, poverty, mental health and addictions. These issues are common across the province and Canada. No single community agency or government department has the ability to address all matters of concern. Each individual organization will continue to act as a catalyst as we address emerging community needs. As partners, we have the ability to apply our strengths and resources to resolution.
This assessment presents an opportunity to collaborate, support, raise awareness, build and reinforce cohesive community and social need strategic plans, and to understand the interconnectedness of resources and social need in the region.
The report will be presented to Joint Councils on February 26 and will be available on both the Town and the MD websites.
To receive a paper copy, please first contact FCSS at 403-627-3156. You will be instructed to ring the entrance bell at the Town Office front door, and one of the reception team will bring it to you.
