Recreation Energy Conservation (REC) program
August 5, 2021
OVERVIEW
As part of the MCCAC’s Recreation Energy Conservation (REC) program, the Town of Pincher Creek has completed a lighting retrofit at the Multi-Purpose Facility, updating 151 lighting fixtures in the facility to LED fixtures. The project was completed in July 2021.
APPROACH
The Multi Purpose Facility lighting retrofit project involved the replacement of existing fluorescent lighting fixtures throughout the facility with new LED technology. 151 lighting fixtures were installed the process, providing equivalent or higher lumen lighting with less wattage. Some areas were delamped as well as less lighting was required with the new LED’s. The LEDs will reduce electricity costs for years to come along with maintenance costs due to their typical longer life.
RESULTS
The retrofit of the Multi Purpose Facility lights will result in an estimated annual 62 MW-hr reduction in lighting consumption for the facility, with an expected annual savings of $3,936. This change will result in an estimated greenhouse gas reduction of 16 tons of CO2 equivalent per year, about the same as taking 10 cars off the road. With funding provided by the MCCAC REC Program, the project is expected to payback via energy savings in 1.8 years.
