Public Information Release
September 5, 2023
During the last week, the Municipal area received some moisture. At that time, the Oldman Reservoir briefly went up. However, Alberta Environment anticipates the reservoir will continue on a steady trajectory downwards. The brief localized event was not impactful enough to make much difference in storage accumulation and the MD will continue hauling water in the interim.
At the present time, both the MD of Pincher Creek and Village of Cowley remain under Stage 3 of the Water Shortage Response Plan, the Town of Pincher Creek remains at Stage 2.
What does Stage 3 mean?
Stage 3 is a higher level of restriction on water usage which is currently in place in Lundbreck, Cowley, Beaver Mines, and Castle Mountain. See the MD of Pincher Creek’s website for the details of the restrictions. https://mdpinchercreek.ab.ca/content.php?ias=notice
What does Stage 2 mean?
The Town of Pincher Creek is at Stage 2, which is less restrictive. See the Town of Pincher Creek’s website for details. http://www.pinchercreek.ca/media/ias.php
Are We Under Fire Ban?
Due to current and forecasted weather conditions, a fire Restriction is now in effect for The Town of Pincher Creek, MD of Pincher Creek, Village of Cowley and the Piikani First Nation. Fire permits will no longer be issued.
For specifics on what is prohibited and allowed, please visit www.albertafirebans.ca The Fire Restriction will remain in effect. Conditions will continue to be monitored.
Every drop matters and everyone has a role to play in helping conserve water in their community.
• Check the timer of your automatic sprinkler to ensure it follows the restrictions
• Do not run the tap unnecessarily. Consider reusing water where possible
• Minimize shower time and bath levels
• Use the washer and dishwasher only when necessary, and with full loads
• Flush toilets only when necessary, and check toilet for leaks
• Keep a jug of drinking water in the refrigerator rather than running tap for cold water
• Use leftover cooking water to water your plants
• Brainstorm ideas within your own businesses, institutions or work areas to see where other conservation efforts might make sense
• Have integrity and do the right thing, even if no one is looking, and please follow all restrictions
