Town of Pincher Creek Council Approves 2025–2026 Multi-Year Budget

The Town of Pincher Creek Council is pleased to announce the approval of its 2025–2026 budget. Maintaining a multi-year approach, Council continues to set the stage for long-term financial stability and efficient planning.
 
In June, Council established clear guidelines for Administration, enabling the development of a balanced budget without the need for drastic cuts to service levels. Despite rising inflation nationwide, the budget reflects a 3% increase in each of the next two years, ensuring continuity of services and fiscal responsibility.
 
Key Highlights of the 2025–2026 Budget:
 

• Multi-Year Planning: The approval of a two-year budget represents a significant milestone for Pincher Creek. This forward-thinking approach not only streamlines the budgeting process but also provides the incoming Council with a solid financial foundation to pass the next budget early in their term.
• Service Sustainability: Annual Utility rate adjustments continue to enhance the self-sufficiency of the system, supporting long-term sustainability and reliability for the community.
• Staffing Stability: After several years of shifting priorities due to staffing shortages, the Town is now operating with a fully staffed team, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality services to residents.
• Capital Projects: Recognizing the need for strategic planning, Council has limited capital projects for 2025 and 2026. This decision allows time to develop a comprehensive capital plan that aligns with long-term community goals.
• Strategic Studies: Several studies have been included in the budget to inform long-term planning and operational efficiency. These include:
  • A pedestrian trail study to explore the expansion of the Town’s trail network.
  • A facility usage study to determine the lifecycle of Town facilities and determine which require upgrades and which will need replacement.
  • An infrastructure study to prioritize future maintenance and improvements.
  • A fleet replacement strategy to identify the most efficient and economical methods for replacing Town machinery and vehicles.

 
This budget reflects Council’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, proactive infrastructure management, and enhanced community amenities. Council and Administration look forward to bringing these initiatives to life.
 
The budget does not reflect any change to the fees that the Town will be required to collect on behalf of the province for the Alberta School Fund or for the support provided to Crestview Lodge for seniors housing.
